I’ve been reading this book Change Your Thoughts – Change Your Life by Dr. Wayne Dyer. This book is an application of the Tao Te Ching. Many scholars consider this book to be “the ultimate discourse on the nature of existence”. Change Your Thoughts - Change Your Life is an interesting book but it’s one of those books that you have to read slowly, the chapters (called verses)are extremely short, so it sort of forces you to read one chapter at a time. In the 9th verse, the author states the following “come to grips with the radical concept of ‘enough is enough’. Make this commitment even though you live in a world addicted to the idea that on one can never have enough of anything. The obesity crisis in the Western world, particularly in America, is a direct result of not understanding (and living) this concept. Eat, but stop when you’re full – to continue stuffing food into a satiated body is to be trapped in believing that more of something is the cause of your happiness.”
This made me think to the many dinners, whether it was Thanksgiving, Christmas etc when there was so much food that by the end of the night you eat so much that you are stuffed. I know I’ve done it and I don’t like the feeling of being too full. Eating too much makes me lethargic.
One way to tell if you’re eating correct food portion sizes is to use your fists as a guide to measurement. Your stomach is about the size of your fist and this is the amount of food to eat at each meal.
